Oumar Diakité’s future could soon take a Swiss turn. According to Africafoot, FC Basel are showing strong interest in the Ivorian international, who is currently under contract with Stade de Reims.

The Swiss Super League club has reportedly made inquiries about the 22-year-old striker as they look to bolster their attack this summer. So far, and according to the same source, no official offer has been submitted to Reims, but contact between the clubs has been established.

Rejected in England, wanted in Switzerland

Far from lacking suitors, Oumar Diakité reportedly turned down a recent offer from Lincoln City in the Championship. Last season, on loan at Cercle Brugge in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League, the Ivorian made quite an impression. In 25 appearances, he netted 7 goals and showcased a well-rounded profile: not only a goal scorer but also a tireless worker for the team’s defensive effort. Under contract with Reims until June 30, 2028, his market value is estimated at €5 million by Transfermarkt—a figure that might slow down Basel but certainly not cool their interest.

A player with experience beyond his years

Developed at Reims, Oumar Diakité is just 22 but already boasts significant international experience. The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations champion participated in the last Africa Cup of Nations and the World Cup with the Ivory Coast Elephants. After Reims’ relegation to Ligue 2, a departure seems inevitable.
