Transfer window: Stanley Nwabali courted in South Africa and Tanzania
Now a free agent after leaving Chippa United, Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali is already attracting attention across the continent. Two ambitious clubs are reportedly ready to reignite his career.
Simba SC and Kaizer Chiefs are both keeping a close watch on Stanley Nwabali. According to multiple sources, these two African heavyweights are closely following the Nigerian's situation. Both clubs see Nwabali as a strategic opportunity to sign an experienced goalkeeper without having to pay a transfer fee.
European options... but no deal
His performances had piqued the interest of clubs beyond Africa, notably Al-Ettifaq and Queens Park Rangers. However, despite these approaches, no agreement was reached. Since terminating his contract with Chippa United, the goalkeeper has remarkably remained without a club, fueling speculation about his future.
The main stumbling block remains the calendar. With seasons coming to an end, clubs prefer to wait until the transfer window fully opens before finalizing their moves.
Having joined Chippa United in 2022 from Katsina United, Nwabali quickly established himself as a key figure, eventually earning the captain's armband. His solid performances paved the way for a call-up to the Nigerian national team under José Peseiro.
The 29-year-old goalkeeper made a lasting impression at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he proved himself as a reliable last line of defense. He continued this momentum at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, further cementing his status as Nigeria's number one.
