U17 AFCON: Angola thrashes Central African Republic 6-1 but exits tournament
Determined to continue in the tournament, Angola mercilessly dismantled the Central African Republic on Monday, April 7, 2025, at El Abdi Stadium. In complete domination, the Palanquinhas triumphed 6-1 over the Central Africans, but they finished third in Group D.
Angola faced the Central African Republic in the third and final group stage match of the 2025 U17 Africa Cup of Nations. It was the captain, Delfim Betuela Luwawu, who opened the score in the 13th minute to set the tone for the encounter.
This first goal propelled the Palanquinhas. The Sino-Angolan Densel Liyafei Morais Liyun went on a rampage, scoring an unprecedented hat-trick. He first doubled the lead in the 26th minute and added a brace in the second half with contributions from Eliseu Francisco (63rd) and Medonnell Puna (69th).
The Palanquinhas did not stop there. Jairo Antรณnio Bento Muanha scored a double in the 64th and 90+2 minutes to seal Angola's victory with a final score of 6-1. Meanwhile, Anan Jefferson Otto attempted to salvage some pride for the Central African Republic with a goal in the 87th minute.
While the Angolans were dismantling the Central African Republic, Ivory Coast defeated Mali 4-2 and secured the last available spot in Group D for the quarter-finals of the 2025 U17 AFCON. The Palanquinhas exit the competition with heads held high.
