Mainz 05 has announced Urs Fischer as their new head coach. The Swiss manager has signed a contract through 2028 and will take charge immediately, with his debut set for the upcoming Conference League match against Lech Poznan.

Fischer previously managed FC Thun, guiding them into the Europa League, before moving to FC Basel, where he won both the Swiss championship and the cup. At Union Berlin, he achieved promotion to the Bundesliga and subsequently led the club into the Conference League, Europa League, and even the Champions League. He parted ways with Union Berlin in November 2023.

Sporting director Christian Heidel praised Fischer's ability to organize a team and win the trust of the locker room. Fischer himself expressed his appreciation for the club's values and the atmosphere at the MEWA Arena, believing that the team can quickly get back to winning ways.
