(Video) Another night, another record: Mbappé rewrites Champions League history in Munich
Kylian Mbappé delivered another landmark performance on Wednesday 15 April as Real Madrid edged closer to the UEFA Champions League semi finals leading Bayern Munich 3-2 at the Allianz Arena with minutes remaining in second leg of their quarter final clash.
With the match still ongoing, Mbappé has already stolen the spotlight by reaching two major milestones in Europe’s top competition.
Mbappé hits 70 goal mark in record time
The French forward became the third fastest player in Champions League history to reach 70 goal achieving the feat in just 90 appearance.
Only Lionel Messi (98 game) & Robert Lewandowski (93 game) reached the mark quicker.
It is another indicator of Mbappé’s consistency at the highest level particularly in decisive knockout matches.
New away scoring record
Mbappé also set a new benchmark in the competition by becoming first player ever to score 10 away goal in a single Champions League season.
The record underlines his impact in high pressure environments especially in knockout ties played away from home.
Real Madrid on the brink
At the Allianz Arena, Real Madrid lead 3-2 on the night overturning the first leg deficit after Bayern Munich had won 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side have shown attacking sharpness in Munich, with Mbappé playing a decisive role in turning the tie around as they push for a place in the semi finals.
Bayern meanwhile are still searching for a late response but time is running out with the match entering its final minutes.
