Zamalek thought they had taken a crucial step toward the CAF Confederation Cup final on Wednesday 17 April but first half goal was ruled out after VAR review leaving their semi final second leg against CR Belouizdad goalless at Cairo International Stadium.

Early breakthrough ruled out

Zamalek found the net in the 28 minute through Oday Dabbagh who headed in from a set piece delivery to spark celebrations inside the stadium.

However the goal was quickly checked and following a VAR review, the referee disallowed it ,, cutting short what would have been a decisive moment in the tie.

The decision kept the score at 0-0 on the night preserving the tension in a match where margins remain tight.

As things stand, a goalless draw would be enough to send the Cairo side through to the final while CR Belouizdad need at least one goal to bring the tie back to level terms.
