World Cup 2026: Nigeria files official complaint to FIFA against DR Congo

Nigeria still hasn't come to terms with its elimination from the race to the 2026 World Cup. The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has officially lodged an appeal with FIFA against the Democratic Republic of Congo, following the play-off on November 16, which ended 1-1 and saw Congo prevail 4-3 on penalties.

Through its general secretary Sanusi Mohammed, the NFF denounced the use of allegedly ineligible players:

Congo's law prohibits dual nationality. Wan-Bissaka has a European passport, and other players hold French or Dutch passports. The rules are clear and we have filed our appeal.

Nigeria insists it will pursue every legal avenue to defend its case. On the Leopards' side, FECOFA has yet to respond.
