World Cup 2026 (Q): After Pape Gueye, Cheikh Niasse is out for Senegal vs Togo
The national team of Senegal records another withdrawal before hosting their counterparts from Togo for the 6th day of the World Cup 2026 qualifiers. After Pape Gueye, it's now Cheikh Niasse's turn to leave the squad.
The Lions of Teranga face the Togolese Sparrowhawks this Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at Stade Me Abdoulaye Wade as part of the 6th round of World Cup 2026 qualification. Just hours before this crucial clash, the Senegalese team has officially confirmed another withdrawal.
“Cheikh Niasse injured his right thigh during training on March 21 in Benghazi. Tests revealed a hamstring injury (grade III), ruling him out for Senegal-Togo (March 25). He returns to his club to continue treatment. Wishing him a speedy recovery!” reads the statement.
It should be noted that this was his first call-up to the Senegal national team. The Hellas Verona midfielder was summoned by coach Pape Thiaw on March 17 for the 5th and 6th qualifying matches for the World Cup 2026. Unfortunately, Cheikh Niasse leaves the squad without having played his first minutes with the Lions of Teranga.
