World Cup 2026 Qualifiers: Akor Adams Doubtful Against Rwanda and Zimbabwe

Akor Adams is uncertain for the Super Eagles' matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, scheduled for March 21 and 25, 2025. FC Sevilla wants to ensure the complete recovery of their Nigerian forward following a recent injury.

On February 7, 2025, during a training session with FC Sevilla, Akor Adams suffered a muscle injury to his quadriceps, leading to an estimated six-week absence. This injury occurred shortly after his arrival from Montpellier on January 27, 2025.

At the end of February, the 25-year-old forward resumed training with FC Sevilla, marking the beginning of his recovery phase. However, the club's medical staff is taking a cautious approach regarding his return to official competition. Despite his injury, he has been pre-selected by coach Eric Chelle for the matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe. This is good news nevertheless, as Akor Adams is being called up for the first time to the Nigerian national team.

This decision has not been well-received by FC Sevilla. The coach of the Andalusian club did not hesitate to comment on the matter.

"To join the national team, I understand that he must first be cleared to play with Sevilla. If, for any reason, he is not called up this week or the next, he will not be able to go to the national team because he will not have the competition clearance, but that depends on the medical services. I understand they will want to call him up, but for that, he must be at one hundred percent. Let him help us first," said Garcia Pimienta in a press conference.

Premature participation could jeopardize his full recovery and affect his future performances.
