On the eve of the round of 16 clash between Belgium and the United States, Rudi Garcia reacted strongly to a FIFA decision regarding Folarin Balogun.

Sent off during the match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, the American striker was originally set to miss this encounter. However, FIFA has now suspended his one-match ban for twelve months, making him eligible to face Belgium.

This decision left the Belgian head coach baffled, and he responded with irony during the press conference, adding that the Belgian federation would contest what it sees as an unfair and anti-sporting ruling:

I didn’t know that July 5 was actually April 1. It’s an April Fools’ joke! I think this is a first in history. Here, we’re not defending our national team or federation, we’re defending football and its integrity.

Despite his frustration, Rudi Garcia insisted his squad would remain focused on their objective: beating the United States and booking a spot in the quarter-finals.
