World Cup 2026: Thomas Tuchel adopts device to better withstand the heat
The preparations for the World Cup now go far beyond tactical decisions or player fitness. England manager Thomas Tuchel has recently made headlines by investing in an innovative device designed to boost his players’ recovery and performance in the face of the intense heat expected during the tournament.
Thomas Tuchel has implemented a system to combat high temperatures during the World Cup. According to the English press, the England head coach has incorporated a device into his preparations that cools players’ palms. This system, developed by Therabody and named CryoTherm Palm, aims to lower body temperature through targeted cooling of the hands—a key area in the body’s thermal regulation.
This initiative comes amid growing concerns about the climate. England will play their opening match of the tournament in Dallas, Texas, where temperatures could soar above 30°C. This challenge is pushing coaching staffs to innovate to reduce fatigue and optimize recovery between efforts.
An innovation at the heart of modern preparation
With an estimated cost of around 400 euros and not yet available to the general public, the device has reportedly already been tested in training. Some studies cited by the press suggest that cooling the palms can help lower core body temperature and enhance recovery during breaks.
According to reports, this technology could also be used during matches, especially during hydration breaks, to help players better cope with the extreme conditions expected at this World Cup in North America.
