🔴 FLASH: Congolese player suffers cardiac arrest!
Panic struck on Thursday, May 22, during a youth match as Samuel Kondi Nibombe, a promising Congolese defender for AS Monaco, suddenly collapsed on the pitch after suffering a cardiac arrest.
At just 17 years old, he was immediately attended to by medical staff. After receiving CPR and being stretchered off, he regained consciousness and was transported to the hospital.
"Samuel Nibombe is doing well"
Since then, there had been little news about his condition, but AS Monaco released a reassuring statement on social media:
"Samuel Nibombe is doing well. He spent the night in hospital, his condition is stable and the news is positive," the club announced.
The Monaco management also praised the quick response of the medical teams and the exemplary hospitality of the FFF and Stade Rennais. Here’s a glimpse:
The player’s family, through his uncle Balikou Nibombe, expressed their gratitude to everyone who sent messages of support: "Samuel is doing much better and the family is deeply touched by your messages."
A promising talent for DR Congo
Nibombe arrived at Monaco in August 2023 from Sporting Charleroi and had recently extended his contract until 2027.
The towering central defender from Kinshasa (1.96m) will have until he turns 21 to choose between DR Congo, the homeland of his parents, and Belgium, his adopted country.
We wish him a speedy recovery and a swift return to the pitch.
