2024 women's AFCON: Banyana Banyana set off for Morocco
Banyana Banyana - South Africa

The Banyana Banyana set course for Morocco on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, where they will compete in the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations. The South African team will continue their preparations right up until the competition kicks off on July 5, 2025.

South Africa's women's national team departed from Johannesburg early in the day, heading to Morocco, the host nation for the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations. This trip signals the start of the final phase of preparation for Banyana Banyana, who have a clear goal: to clinch back-to-back continental titles.

Before boarding, head coach Desiree Ellis unveiled yesterday, June 23, a 26-player squad for the tournament. The roster features a blend of seasoned veterans and fresh faces, all determined to defend the team's crown on Moroccan soil.

"We tried to find the right balance. It's a new opportunity for these new players to make their mark. You could say we're in a transition phase, and over the years we've managed that well by bringing in younger talent. It's never just about age; we look at the league and see who's performing," said Dr. Ellis.
