During his latest appearance, FIFA President Gianni Infantino addressed the high ticket prices for the 2026 World Cup.

According to the Swiss official, FIFA can only generate revenue during the tournament scheduled for this summer. Infantino thus tried to put the situation into perspective at a Semafor World Economy event.

“There is a category for the most passionate fans starting at sixty dollars, even for the final. If you want a box for the final, it costs tens of thousands of dollars. So there’s something for every budget,” said the FIFA president.

“You have to keep in mind that the World Cup is the only revenue-generating tournament for FIFA. We collect income over one month and then reinvest it until the next World Cup, four years later. Of course, we earn billions, but FIFA is a non-profit organization. We reinvest all our revenue to develop football around the world. We are always looking to strike the right balance. By the way, I learned something new: ticket resale is legal. In some countries, it’s prohibited, but here it’s allowed. The seller then gets the money.” he added.
