Achraf Hakimi, the only African in the UEFA Champions League final
On May 7, 2025, at the Parc des Princes, Paris Saint-Germain punched their ticket to the Champions League final with a 2-1 victory over Arsenal, following up on a 1-0 win in the first leg. Achraf Hakimi, the Moroccan right-back, netted PSG's second goal in the 72nd minute, sealing the fate of the semi-final.
With this qualification, Achraf Hakimi becomes the only African player to compete in the 2024-2025 UEFA Champions League final. While many African stars were knocked out in earlier rounds, the Moroccan international will proudly represent the continent in the grand finale, set for May 31 in Munich. It's worth noting this isn't a first for the 26-year-old Atlas Lion. Hakimi played and won the UEFA Champions League final with Real Madrid in 2018 against Liverpool (3-1).
