AFC CL: the scorers' standings after Mahrez's double! (Video)

Riyad Mahrez continues to make his mark in the AFC Champions League Elite. The Algerian winger shone once again by scoring a double, thus offering Al Ahli Saudi a deserved qualification for the quarter-finals at the expense of Al Rayyan.

The "Fennecs" captain scored in the 77th and 83rd minutes during the match held at the Al Inma Stadium in Jeddah. With this performance, Al Ahli Saudi confirmed their supremacy over Al Rayyan, winning on aggregate over the two legs (5-1).

Mahrez, a serious contender for the top scorer title

With these two goals, the former Manchester City player brings his total to 8 goals in this edition of the elite Asian Champions League, marking his best tally in a continental competition.

Mahrez thus joins Al Hilal's star, Salem Al-Dawsari, in second place in the scorers' standings, just one behind the leader Anderson Lopes, striker of Yokohama F. Marinos (9 goals).

The Algerian international was named man of the match for his outstanding performance before being substituted in the 88th minute.

Mahrez confident for the future

In a press conference after the match, Mahrez expressed his optimism for the rest of the tournament:

"We have enough time to rest and prepare for the next round in April. The fact that the finals are taking place in Jeddah is an advantage for us, and we will give everything to win the title."

He also emphasized his team's mindset:

“We have shown an exceptional mentality and benefit from immense support from our fans. We want to achieve a major feat for the club this season, and we will be driven by incredible passion in the upcoming stages.”
