According to press reports, Tottenham Hotspur has reached a preliminary agreement with Bayern Munich to sign French striker Mathys Tel, who arrived in North London on loan, and it seems that the German club has found that the player's stay will be better for the team because of his individual technical excellence.

Although the 19-year-old has only found the back of the net twice in his months with the Londoners, he seems to have found a way to convince Bayern's management that he can do more than he has done.

Reaching an agreement in principle with Bayern Munich

The young striker is expected to leave Bayern Munich on a permanent deal to Tottenham Hotspur, and according to Fabrizio Romano, the deal will only cost Tottenham €30m in full costs with £8.5m for the loan fee and £4.2m in add-ons.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the player has agreed personal terms with his new club, while both teams have finalized the transfer agreement for the reported fee.

This move would mark Brentford's third summer signing under new manager Thomas Frank:

  • Mathys Tel arrives as the latest addition

  • Kevin Danso makes his loan move permanent from Lens

  • Teenage sensation Luka Vusković finally joins after his 2023 agreement

Can he succeed under Thomas Frank at Spurs?

During his tenure at Brentford, Frank has demonstrated tactical flexibility by alternating between three and four-man defensive systems. His philosophy centers on adaptable, attacking football characterized by aggressive man-oriented pressing and a high defensive line - stylistic elements comparable to Ange Postecoglou's approach.

The young talent Tel has shown flashes of promise mixed with expected inconsistency during his initial months at the club. While the 19-year-old has yet to consistently reach his anticipated performance levels - understandable given his age and development stage - Frank's coaching could prove pivotal in his progression.

Frank's tactical blueprint heavily emphasizes wing play and crossing opportunities. This is evidenced by Brentford's consistent ranking among the Premier League's top six teams for successful open-play crosses in each of the past three campaigns, highlighting their commitment to width and delivery from wide areas.
