Al Ahly: Mohamed Youssef to replace Koller on the bench?
Swiss technical director Marcel Koller expressed his surprise and astonishment following the decision by the board, chaired by Mahmoud El Khatib, to part ways with him and inform him of his dismissal while he was preparing to play the remaining matches of the Egyptian Premier League season, before participating in the Club World Cup in America this summer.
This decision sparked intense anger among the "Red City" fans after losing the chance to clinch the African Champions League title and being eliminated from the competition at home, in front of their own supporters. This led the club's management to swiftly release a statement confirming the departure of the Swiss coach.
Here is the official statement from Al Ahly club:
Al Ahly club wishes to express its gratitude to Marcel Koller, the head coach of the first team, for the considerable efforts he has made since taking up the position. Thanks to his experience and professionalism, he has led the club to win numerous national and continental titles.
In this official statement, Al Ahly emphasizes its respect for the work accomplished by the coach and appreciates his dedication. It also highlights the involvement of his technical staff, who also deserve thanks.
Due to exceptional circumstances and the trust relationship established over time, negotiations are currently underway with Marcel Koller to mutually terminate his contract under conditions that honor both the club and the coach.
Mohamed Youssef, the most likely candidate to succeed Koller!
According to reports from Egyptian media in recent hours, coach Mohamed Youssef, currently leading Haras El Hodoud, is the main contender to succeed Koller.
According to the same sources, if Mohamed Youssef reaches an agreement with Al Ahly, he will take over the team on an interim basis, pending the appointment of a new foreign technical staff.
