Algerian Football Hit by Violence Again: FAF Promises Tough Sanctions

The scourge of stadium violence in Algerian football resurfaced during high stakes clash between Moustakbal Rouissat and USM El Harrach in the algerian amateur league.

The latest episode of violence unfolded before the match even kicked off leading referee Youssef Gamouh to refuse officiating the game due to safety concerns. The arrival of USM El Harrach’s team bus at the municipal stadium of Rouissat was met with serious clashes involving local supporters. Players from the visiting team were also assaulted during their warm up session further escalating tensions.

Several videos circulated on social media showing violent confrontations including attacks on usm el harrach players and staff. Reports indicate that Mustafa Maza the club’s sporting director, suffered acid attack on his eyes requiring urgent medical attention and surgery.

Given the gravity of the situation the FAF swiftly issued statement condemning the violence. The federation expressed its deep regret over the incidents emphasizing that such acts damage the reputation of algerian football, especially as they occurred on the eve of the holy month of Ramadan. The governing body announced the immediate launch of investigation to identify those responsible and enforce strict disciplinary measures.

The FAF’s statement read "These unacceptable behaviors tarnish the image of our sport and must be eradicated with firm measures It's crucial to eliminate troublemakers who repeatedly disrupt the game. In this regard, the algerian football federation's opening investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding these incidents and to hold those responsible accountable"

the FAF called on all football stakeholders including clubs, fans and media to join efforts in fighting stadium violence and preserving the spirit of fair play. The federation emphasized that the outcome of this match could be determined by the forthcoming disciplinary measures which could include replaying the fixture on neutral ground behind closed doors.

The FAF’s Disciplinary Committe'll begin reviewing reports from the match officials security services and the administrations of both clubs. With FAF President Walid Sadi personally overseeing the matter unprecedented sanctions are expected to be handed down in the coming days.
