All Eyes on Cairo: Pyramids FC and Pirates Set for Decisive CAF Semi-Final Showdown
Pyramids FC followed in Al Ahly’s footsteps with crucial 0 - 0 draw away to Orlando Pirates in the CAF Champions League semi final first leg on Saturday night 19 Apr, setting the stage for decisive 2nd leg in Cairo.
The Sky Blues controlled much of the match showcasing better possession and offensive threat than their South African hosts. They were denied first half goal due to incorrect offside call as replays showed the ball had come off Pirates defender, not Pyramids player.
In the dying moments, Walid El Karti’s header deflected off Sodiq Awujool into the net, seemingly handing Pyramids famous win. but after lengthy VAR review the goal was correctly ruled out for handball by the Nigerian forward before the ball crossed the line.
Second Leg Set for April 25 in Cairo
The return match's scheduled for Thursday 25 April at the Air Defense Stadium with full home support expected for Pyramids as they chase historic final berth.
CAF Support & Fixture Adjustments
Both CAF and local federations have supported the semi finalists. The South African FA postponed Orlando Pirates’ domestic match while Pyramids’ egyptian premier league clash with Haras El Hedood was also delayed to 30 April to ease their schedule.
