Paris Saint Germain took massive step toward reaching the Champions League final, earning 1 - 0 away victory over Arsenal in the first leg of the semi final on Tuesday night.

The crucial win at the Emirates Stadium puts the French giants in commanding position ahead of the return leg in Paris next week.

While Arsenal's hopes are still alive, the task's now statistically daunting. According to Opta, only 2 teams in champions league history have managed to overturn 1st leg home defeat to reach the final:

• Ajax (1996) - Lost 1-0 at home to Panathinaikos then won 3-0 away.
• Tottenham (2019) - Lost 1-0 at home to Ajax then secured dramatic 3-2 victory in Amsterdam.

Interestingly both teams lost in the final with Ajax falling to Juventus and Spurs to Liverpool.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta attempted to rally supporters in humorous fashion , saying:

“Bring your shirts, boots and shorts , we need you to play with us against Paris”

The Gunners will need near perfect performance at the Parc des Princes to overturn the deficit and book place in the final for the 1st time since 2006.
