At 40, this Sierra Leone international signs with FC Cincinnati
After six months as a free agent, Kei Kamara has finally found a new home, and it's none other than the American league he knows so well. A true Major League Soccer legend, the Sierra Leonean striker joins FC Cincinnati—his 12th MLS club, setting a new record for the most clubs played for in league history.
"FC Cincinnati announces today the signing of veteran striker Kei Kamara on a contract through the end of the 2025 season, with an option for 2026. Kamara will join the squad as an additional roster spot," the American club officially posted on May 12, 2025.
The 40-year-old had been without a club since leaving Los Angeles FC. His last club appearance was on November 24, 2024, against the Seattle Sounders in MLS. Despite his situation, he still featured for Sierra Leone in March during the 5th and 6th rounds of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau (3-1) and Egypt (0-1).
Since making his MLS debut in 2006 with Columbus Crew, Kamara has established himself as one of the league’s most prolific scorers, netting 147 goals in regular season play. That tally makes him the second-highest scorer in MLS history, trailing only Chris Wondolowski (171). He’s played for more than a dozen MLS clubs, including Chicago Fire, Colorado Rapids, Sporting Kansas City, and others. Kamara has also had spells in Europe, featuring in the Premier League with Norwich City and in the Championship with Middlesbrough.
