Banyana Banyana: Noxolo Cesane celebrated her 50th cap with South Africa
Noxolo Cesane

Noxolo Cesane reached her 50th international cap with the South African women's national team during the opening match of the 2024 Women's AFCON Group C against Ghana (2-0) at the Stade d'honneur in Oujda.

After rising through the ranks (U17, U20), Noxolo Cesane made her senior debut at just 19 years old during the COSAFA tournament on August 5, 2019, in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape. Her coach, Desiree Ellis, remembers it like it was yesterday. "She was a revelation at the COSAFA Cup, then went on to feature at the 2022 Women's AFCON where she delivered a fantastic assist to Jermaine Seoposenwe to score against Nigeria. She had a great tournament, then played at the World Cup. Afterwards, she moved abroad. This is well deserved for a player who has truly put in the work," Ellis said.

Since then, the 24-year-old has cemented her place in the Banyana Banyana squad and continues to be a driving force in midfield. A Women's AFCON 2022 champion with South Africa, the Eastern Flames FC midfielder is still out to prove herself and help her team secure a second consecutive continental title.
