Beach Soccer World Cup: Senegal achieves a flawless run!
Senegal continues to cement its status as the African giant of beach soccer! Already qualified after their first two matches, the Sand Lions wrapped up the group stage in style this Tuesday, clinching a third victory in as many outings.
After overpowering Spain (1-4) and then Tahiti (3-6), Oumar Ngalla Sylla’s men dominated Chile 7-3 in a decisive clash for the top spot in Group C.
Despite fielding a rotated squad, Senegal left no chance for their opponent, thanks in particular to braces from Mandione Diagne, Ninou Diatta, and Sidy Fall, as well as a penalty converted by Sanou Laye Thiaw.
With this flawless run, the African champions finished atop their group and will face Italy in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
Another powerful statement from a team with high ambitions in this World Cup.
The other African sides bow out
It was a less fortunate campaign for Africa’s other two representatives. The Seychelles, heavily defeated 10-2 by Japan, exit without a single win (0 points).
The same fate befell Mauritania, eliminated after just two matchdays and finishing bottom of their group following three defeats, the last coming against Paraguay (9-5).
