Brahim Díaz, new king of African assist providers at the World Cup
Brahim Díaz has once again underlined his crucial role in Morocco's journey at the 2026 World Cup.
The Real Madrid attacking midfielder played a pivotal part in securing the Atlas Lions' spot in the quarter-finals of the tournament, which is being held across the United States, Canada, and Mexico until July 19.
Against Canada, the 26-year-old delivered a pinpoint assist to Azzedine Ounahi for Morocco's second goal, before setting up Soufiane Rahimi with another exquisite pass in stoppage time. With these two latest assists, his tally rises to four since the start of the competition.
With four assists, Díaz rules Africa at the World Cup
Thanks to this stellar performance, Brahim Díaz becomes the first African player in World Cup history to register four assists.
The Moroccan playmaker shatters the previous record, which was jointly held by Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan, Nigeria’s Finidi George, and Moroccans Tahar El Khalej and Achraf Hakimi, all of whom had three assists to their names.
In the 2026 World Cup assist rankings, Brahim Díaz now stands in second place with four assists, level with Brazil’s Bruno Guimarães. Only France’s Michael Olise has more, with five assists.
