Mamelodi Sundowns secured a 2-0 victory over Algerian champions MC Alger in their CAF Champions League clash at Loftus Versfelfd Stadium on Saturday.

In a match that was tense, owing to the much publicized suspension of Down analyst Mario Masha for allegedly leaking tactical information to former colleague Rulani Mokwena, Brayan Leon broke the dreadlock in the sixth minute.

Masandawanwa went into the interval with a 1-0 lead, knowing only a win would see them advance to the knockout stages after what has been a below-par group stage campaign.

The South African champions doubled the lead as the Colombian Leon completed his brace in the 64th minute, to give Downs a much-needed two-goal cushion.

As a result, Sundowns advanced to the CAF Champions League knockout stages with nine point accumulated from six games.
