OFFICIAL: Orlando Pirates mutually part ways with Deano van Rooyen
Betway Premiership champions Orlando Pirates have announced their mutual contract termination with defender Deano van Rooyen, who leaves the club as a free agent.
The 29-year-old right-back signed for the Sea Robbers in August 2024 from Stellenbosch FC, putting pen to paper on a three-year deal, with an option to extend his stay by two years.
While he was a regular feature in the starting XI in his debut season, van Rooyen saw his game time diminish under Abdeslam Ouaddou, settling for 14 appearances across all competitions last term.
Van Rooyen is now set for a new chapter as he is eligible to join any team of his choice on a free transfer after lifting two MTN8 titles, a solitary Carling Knockout Cup, and as many Betway Premiership titles with Pirates.
“Orando Pirates Football Club can confirm that Deano van Rooyen will be leaving the club, after the player and the club agreed to part ways by mutual consent,” read the club statement.
"The decision follows conversations between Deano and the club, with both sides agreeing that the time is right for him to begin a new chapter in his career.
"Van Rooyen joined the Buccaneers from Stellenbosch FC ahead of the 2024/25 season, arriving as one of the most consistent full-backs in the Betway Premiership.
"At the club, he delivered exactly what was asked of him him. Whether starting or coming off the bench, Deano carried himself as a model professional throughout his time at the club - where he recorded over 50 appearances.
"Orlando Pirates Football Club would like to thank Deano for his contribution and wish him well in his future endeavours.
Whether he will continue to ply his trade in the Betway Premiership remains to be seen, with the player expected to have a plethora of suitors lining up for his signature.
