The Group C clash between France and Iraq at the 2026 World Cup has been suspended due to severe thunderstorms in the Philadelphia area, with play set to resume in 50 minutes.

The match was halted with France leading 1‑0, the only goal coming from Kylian Mbappé on his 100th appearance for the national team. Both sides were forced to leave the pitch as adverse weather conditions swept through the stadium.

Initially, a half‑hour delay was announced, but updated reports have now confirmed a longer pause, with kick‑off expected at 1:50 local time. A further update had been scheduled for 1:00, but the decision was pushed back as the storm persisted.

The match carries significant importance for France, who opened their campaign with a 3‑1 win over Senegal. Iraq, meanwhile, are looking to recover after a heavy 4‑1 defeat to Norway. For Didier Deschamps’ side, victory would put them in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stages. The weather, however, has other plans. The wait continues.
