On the bench as France's head coach since 2012, Didier Deschamps has regularly faced criticism at home for what many see as an overly restrictive playing style. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, however, sees things differently.

Indeed, following Les Bleus' 3-0 victory over Iraq in this 2026 World Cup, Zlatan Ibrahimovic delivered a heartfelt tribute to the French tactician.

"It's rare to see great players also become great coaches. He's already won a World Cup, lost a World Cup final, won a Nations League, and lost a Euro final... Managing so many stars in one squad is no easy task. People think it's simple—France has so many stars, just put them on the pitch and everything takes care of itself. But no, there’s so much more to manage, to control. He’s proven he can do it, generation after generation. He’s always winning trophies, and even when he doesn’t, his team is still among the very best. I have immense respect for him," the Swede told Fox Sports.
