CAF Champions League: Royal Army Files Official Complaint Against Pyramids

Tensions have escalated between Moroccan club AS FAR Royal Army and Egyptian side Pyramids FC following their CAF Champions League quarter final clash, which ended in 4 - 1 victory for Pyramids.

In an official statement, AS FAR confirmed that they have lodged formal complaint with the Confederation of African Football CAF over ticket allocation issues that prevented significant number of their supporters from entering the Air Defense Stadium in Cairo.

Violation of CAF Regulations?

According to the Moroccan club Pyramids FC initially allocated only 100 tickets for AS FAR fans before adding just 100 more, despite CAF regulations stating that visiting teams should receive at least 5% of the stadium’s capacity, equivalent to 1500 ticket in this case.

The statement also revealed that AS FAR had contacted both CAF & Pyramids FC ahead of the game to resolve the issue. CAF reportedly ordered Pyramids to increase the ticket allocation but the egyptian club only made minimal adjustment, leaving hundreds of Moroccan fans locked out of the stadium.

Tensions Rising Before the 2nd Leg

AS FAR strongly condemned these actions, stating that restricting fans from attending matches undermines fair play and could lead to unnecessary security risks. The club also stressed that such behavior damages the spirit of African football and urged CAF to take decisive action.

The return leg is set to take place at Stade Municipal in Rabat on 8 April where AS FAR will be looking to overturn the deficit and possibly settle the off field dispute as well.
