The qualification of Mamelodi Sundowns for the CAF Champions League semi-finals is not without controversy. The second leg against Espérance Sportive de Tunis, which ended in a 0-0 draw, has sparked a wave of protests. While the Sundowns managed to secure their spot in the last four, the manner in which they achieved this result raises questions.

Former Tunisian referee Adel Zahmoul criticized the refereeing of Senegalese Issa Sy, believing he should have sent off Ronwen Williams, the Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper. According to him, Williams prevented a clear goal-scoring opportunity outside the box, which warranted a red card.

But the controversy goes further. Adel Zahmoul also questioned the disallowed goal of Achref Jabri, ruled offside after VAR review. In his view, this goal should have stood, which would have changed the outcome of the match. For him, there's no doubt:

The Senegalese referee wronged Espérance and influenced the outcome of the match. It's certain.
