Can PSG Break the Curse? Arsenal Stand Between Them and Champions League Glory
Paris Saint Germain’s quest for first ever Champions League title remains unfulfilled despite decade of lavish spending since Qatari billionaire Nasser Al Khelaifi took control in 2012.
The 2024 / 2025 campaign, however offers yet another opportunity for redemption.
With Ousmane Dembele in scintillating form, PSG're set to face Arsenal in the Champions league semi finals with the 1st leg at the Emirates Stadium and the return leg at the Parc des Princes.
A Step Away from History
PSG reached the semi finals for the 2nd consecutive season having been knocked out by Borussia Dortmund in the 2023 /24 edition.
This year, they survived scare against Aston Villa, winning 5 - 4 on aggregate (3-1 in Paris & 2-3 in Birmingham).
The club's only previous final came in 2020, during the COVID19 pandemic, when they lost 1 - 0 to Bayern Munich in Lisbon. The match was decided by 59 minute header from Kingsley Coman , a former PSG academy product.
A Lone French Triumph
Despite its stature, PSG's yet to join Marseille as Champions League winners. The southern giants remain the only French club to lift the trophy doing so in 1993 against AC Milan.
Now with another shot at the final, PSG and manager Luis Enrique will hope to finally rewrite history and deliver the long awaited continental crown to Paris.
