CAN U17: Senegal held to a draw by Tunisia!
In their quest for an early qualification to the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations, CAN U17, Senegal was forced to share the points with Tunisia (0-0) this Friday at Stade Ben M’Hamed El Abdi in El Jadida, Morocco.
Despite clear dominance, the young Lions failed to capitalize on their chances in this Group C duel.
A sterile domination by the young Lions
With nearly 70% possession and 11 shots compared to just 2 for Tunisia, the Senegalese largely controlled the encounter. However, their opponents, well-organized defensively, closed all gaps, banking on a draw after their victory against Somalia (3-0).
Offensively uninspired, Pape Ibrahima Faye's men struggled to unbalance the Tunisian block. Slim Bouaskar, the opposing goalkeeper, notably stopped a shot from Abdourahmane Mbodji and won his duel against Sidy Bahrama Ndiaye. Video:
Ibrahima Sory Sow comes close to scoring
In the second half, the young Lions relied on set pieces from their captain Ibrahima Sory Sow, who was decisive in the first match. But this time, luck wasn't on their side: his first attempt was deflected by the post, while the second was saved by Bouaskar.
In the final minutes, El Hadji Sow had two match balls, but he lacked precision.
Despite this frustration, the draw allows Senegal to glimpse the quarter-finals before facing a struggling Somalia (8 goals conceded in two matches).
Meanwhile, Tunisia will play a "final" against Gambia, who regained confidence after their emphatic win against Somalia (5-1).
