CAN U20: South Africa topple Nigeria and book their place in the final!
South Africa have brilliantly secured their ticket to the final of the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations after overcoming Nigeria (1-0) this Thursday at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium in Ismailia, Egypt.
This hard-fought victory came against a Nigerian side that dominated much of the play but failed to capitalize.
Driven by rock-solid defending and ruthless efficiency in attack, the Amajita made their mark with one of their few clear-cut chances.
Against the run of play, it was centre-back Tylon Smith who broke the deadlock in the 66th minute, heading home after a pinpoint cross from the right and a missed intervention by the opposing goalkeeper.
Nigerian dominance proves fruitless
The Flying Eagles then monopolized possession, launching wave after wave of attacks into the South African half. But it was all in vain.
Bidemi Amole saw his shot parried by goalkeeper Fletcher Lowe in the 81st minute, and a dangerous header at the far post was brilliantly stopped late on as well.
The South Africans will now face the winner of the Morocco–Egypt clash in the final. Nigeria, meanwhile, must regroup and aim for the bronze medal in the third-place playoff.
