Carragher: Salah Still Shines, But Squad Needs Urgent Overhaul

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher expects hectic summer transfer window at Anfield warning that the reds need serious reinforcements to stay competitive under new boss Arne Slot.

Why the Urgency?

Speaking to Sky Sports after Liverpool’s 1 - 1 draw with Crystal Palace, Carragher reflected on the club’s recent title win, saying:

"Liverpool won the league in old school way. But to go further, the squad must grow"

He recalled Bill Shankly’s era when 11 or 12 core players could deliver titles. But Carragher believes that won’t work today:

"Slot doesn’t rely on massive group but depth's crucial. The bench lacked energy & quality this season"

What Needs to Change?

Carragher pointed to key matches like the League cup final and the Champions league clash with PSG where the squad’s thin depth was exposed:

"They need 4 or 5 reliable additions. Without them rotating in big moments becomes impossible"

Slot's Imprint Yet to Come

He stressed that the current team isn’t yet molded by Slot, saying:

"This isn’t fully his team. He’ll want players that suit his style and I think we’ll see quick movement in the market"

Praise for Salah

Carragher also reserved high praise for Mohamed Salah:

"There're very few better in PL history. Even in tough seasons, he delivers"

He concluded:

"Salah will go down as one of Liverpool’s greatest ever players and he absolutely deserves it"
