CHAN 2024: Algeria and South Africa join Group C
On Sunday, May 11, Algeria and South Africa clinched qualification for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). Both teams grabbed the final two spots for the tournament, scheduled from August 2 to 30, 2025, in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
At home, South Africa stuns and overturns Malawi
The South Africans pulled off a comeback against Malawi. After losing 1-0 in the first leg in Lilongwe, Bafana Bafana turned things around in Pretoria with a 2-0 win in the return match, thanks to goals from Victor Letsoalo and Neo Maema, sealing their qualification.
Algeria dominates Gambia
After a goalless first leg in Banjul, the Greens controlled the second leg in Algiers, cruising to a 3-0 victory with a brace from Adil Boulbina and a goal from Abderrahmane Meziane. The home-based Fennecs, runners-up in the 2023 CHAN held on their own turf, are now aiming to capture the title away from home against top-tier opposition.
With these results, Algeria and South Africa join Group C of CHAN 2024, alongside Uganda, Niger, and Guinea.
