CHAN 2025 (Q): Gambia misses its flight in Dakar!
On the eve of their second-leg qualifier against Algeria for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN), Gambia’s local national team has found itself in a tricky predicament.
After a goalless draw (0-0) at home in the first leg, the Scorpions A’ are set to battle for qualification this Friday in Annaba. However, trouble struck: they are still stuck in Mauritania, as announced on Thursday by the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) in a statement posted on its Facebook page. See here:
A delay in Dakar costs them their connection to Algiers!
The team was scheduled to leave Nouakchott on Wednesday evening to head to Algeria. However, a series of flight delays threw their plans into disarray.
The delegation made a stopover in Dakar, where they were waiting for a Mauritanian Airways flight coming from Guinea. But with that flight running late, the Gambians ended up missing their connection to Algiers.
The GFF might request a postponement!
It’s worth noting that the GFF now says it is “doing everything possible to get the team there on time and is closely monitoring the situation, while being ready to contact the Confederation of African Football (CAF) if necessary.”
So, with just hours left before kick-off, uncertainty looms: will Gambia make it to Annaba in time to face the Fennecs, or will they be forced to request a postponement?
