Back in DR Congo colors after a grueling season with Olympique de Marseille, Chancel Mbemba hit the pitch with the seriousness and determination that have long defined him.

Starting against Mali, he delivered a rock-solid performance, once again embracing his role as a defensive leader. After the friendly, which the Leopards edged 1-0 in Orléans, the Congolese captain spoke with humility:

It’s all about hard work. Here, the coach gives me the opportunity to play. I make the most of it, I really do. When it’s for the nation, I do my job.

Despite a season without club action, Chancel Mbemba answered the call. For him, nothing matters more than the national jersey. Looking ahead to the next test against Madagascar on Sunday, the defender hopes to see more teammates get their chance:

The most important thing is to play. I hope the coach will rotate the squad and give everyone the opportunity to do their job.

A captain’s voice. A model of commitment. Chancel Mbemba remains a pillar in the Congolese dressing room.
