Chelsea targets Malick Fofana in transfer market

Chelsea is changing course in the transfer market. After ruling out Jadon Sancho, who was deemed unconvincing, the Blues are now setting their sights on a rising star: Malick Fofana, the Olympique Lyonnais winger.

According to L’Équipe, the London club is ready to offer €50 million to secure the services of the 20-year-old Belgian. That’s €10 million less than the €60 million Dortmund demanded for Jamie Bynoe-Gittens—a pursuit that has also now been abandoned.

Having arrived from Gent in January 2024 for €19 million, Malick Fofana quickly made his mark at Lyon. Dynamic and intelligent in his movement, he registered 5 goals and 4 assists in 29 Ligue 1 matches. He shone even brighter in the Europa League: 6 goals and 2 assists in 10 appearances.

Chelsea sees him as a prospect for the future. He could even reunite in London with his namesake, Wesley Fofana. But the competition will be fierce: Manchester United, Liverpool, and Nottingham Forest are all closely monitoring the player as well.
