Clarence Seedorf signs in Iran! (Official)
This is undoubtedly a surprising announcement. Clarence Seedorf, the former midfield maestro for Ajax, Real Madrid, and AC Milan, is continuing his career transition—far from the pitch and the dugout.
Indeed, after some underwhelming stints as a manager—most notably at AC Milan, Shenzhen FC, and as head coach of Cameroon—the Dutchman is now embarking on a new adventure: club executive.
Seedorf named new sporting director of Esteghlal FC
On Tuesday, May 13, Esteghlal FC, currently sitting eighth in the Iranian league, officially announced Seedorf's arrival as sporting director:
“Clarence Seedorf joins the Esteghlal family, and the club is honored to benefit from his expertise,” the club declared on its social media channels.
According to local media, the 1995 European champion has signed on for one season. The deal was struck with owner Ali Nazari Jouybari, who is counting on Seedorf to restructure the club along modern lines. Management, strategy, academy development—his responsibilities will be wide-ranging.
At 49 years old, Seedorf is expected in Tehran in the coming days for a press conference where he will outline his vision. His objective: to bring Esteghlal back to the top, two years after their last domestic title.
