Group A of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup kicked off with a perfectly balanced start, as both opening matches ended in goalless draws.

On Sunday night, Palmeiras and FC Porto played out a 0-0 stalemate at the MetLife Stadium. Neither side managed to break the deadlock in a tense and fiercely contested encounter.

In the group's other fixture, Al Ahly were held to a draw by Inter Miami, also finishing 0-0. This match took place at the Hard Rock Stadium, with both teams sharing the spoils.

After the first matchday, all teams are level on one point each. However, Egyptian club Al Ahly sit at the top of the group, thanks to FIFA's fair play tiebreaker.

According to current regulations, teams tied on points are separated by the number of cards received. Al Ahly received just one yellow card, compared to two for FC Porto, three for Palmeiras, and four for Inter Miami. This disciplinary criterion gives Al Ahly the provisional lead, while the American side brings up the rear.

  4. Inter Miami: 1 point (4 yellow cards)

The competition continues next Thursday with two decisive clashes. Al Ahly will take on Palmeiras in a highly anticipated showdown, while FC Porto and Inter Miami will square off. These matches could prove crucial in the race for qualification to the next stage of the tournament.
