Club World Cup: Patrice Motsepe 'trusts' Al Ahly

As they prepare to face Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami in the opening match of the Club World Cup, Al Ahly can count on the support of African football’s top official.

The CAF president is said to have sent a personal message of encouragement to the Egyptian giants. According to Youm7, Patrice Motsepe described the Reds as the "pride of African football" in a letter sent to the club:

We trust Al Ahly, with its long and glorious history. Millions of people across the African continent are always proud of this club. I look forward to seeing you at the Club World Cup in the United States.

Drawn in Group A, the Cairo-based club will have to take on Inter Miami, Brazil’s Palmeiras, and FC Porto. Expectations are high, and the backing of the CAF president could give Al Ahly’s players an extra boost as they aim to fly the flag for Africa.
