Cristiano Ronaldo: "They shouldn't compare me to Lamine Yamal"

On the eve of the Nations League final between Portugal and Spain, Cristiano Ronaldo was quick to put an end to any individual comparisons, especially with Spanish prodigy Lamine Yamal.

Cristiano Ronaldo refuses to fall into the trap of generational duels:

It's always been like this. Every time I’ve played football, every big match has always been Cristiano against someone else.

But for the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, the focus lies elsewhere:

These are completely different generations: one is just beginning, another is coming to an end, like mine. They should compare Lamine to Vitinha. As for me, I take the hits, no problem.

The captain insists: it’s the team effort that will matter most against La Roja.

In reality, it’s not like that, it’s one team against another. I understand that the media tries to spice up the game, but that’s normal and even enjoyable.

Confident as ever, Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t forget Portugal’s recent achievements:

We beat Germany (in the semifinals) and we hope that tomorrow will be a happy day for Portugal. Finals are always like this, Spain haven’t lost in 24 matches, but Portugal have their strengths too and we’re stepping onto the pitch believing everything will go our way.
