In yet another surprising statement, former Manchester United player and French star Patrice Evra has gone against the majority opinion and says that the Qatar 2022 World Cup was gifted to Argentina and Lionel Messi after Messi struggled to get the honour throughout his career.

Patrice Evra's claim

The former Red Devils star, who spent three seasons at Old Trafford, seems to be unhappy with the outcome of the final between Kylian Mbappe's men and Lionel Scaloni's stars, and in his opinion, the trophy was ‘handed to him’ referring to Messi and his Argentine teammates as well, and Evra seems to have already contradicted his previous statements about the tournament in general.

What did Patrice Evra say about that World Cup final?

The former Manchester United star made a surprise appearance on one of RMC's programmes to talk about the recent World Cup final and what he said afterwards. Speaking about the upcoming 2026 World Cup, the Frenchman talked about his country's upcoming preparations for the upcoming tournament and the possibility of Zinedine Zidane taking over from the man who made history for the French national team, Didier Deschamps.

What exactly did Patrice Evra say?

There's a World Cup to prepare for. I don't think it disturbs the group; players must focus on the present, but we can't talk about Zidane in every interview... We should talk about Didier Deschamps. Are people tired of reaching semi-finals or finals at every tournament, I feel sorry for his successor. Do you prefer winning or playing beautifully? Okay, we haven't won since 2018, but we all know that in 2022, they gave the World Cup to Messi.
