David Ornstein talks about the future of Ange Postecoglou!
After European success, Tottenham will have to decide the future of Australian coach Ange Pochettecoglou, and after Wednesday night's Europa League triumph over Manchester United, many decisions about the manager's future will have to be reconsidered as well.
Brennan Johnson's goal was enough to change a lot of decisions within the club, despite the fact that it was the winning goal against Manchester United in Bilbao at the San Mamés.
A European win and guaranteed Champions League qualification!
Not only was this success the first championship for the London club since 2008, it was a step towards a return to the Champions League next season and a future UEFA Super Cup final against the winner of the UEFA Champions League for the 2025-2026 season.
Speaking about this achievement, Ange Postecoglou was very happy and spoke with complete objectivity about the season they had, saying: I understand why it would be difficult for a club like this to buy into one person's vision. I remember even when I signed, the club and even Daniel (Levy) said, 'we went after winners, it didn't work and now we've got Ange.' But mate, I'm a winner. I have been a serial winner my whole career. It's what I have done more than anything else.
Postecoglou added: Obviously the way things have gone in the league, people are right to be concerned about, but I don't think that's a true reflection of where we are at. We've got a really young group of players and you can talk to them about success and what it means, but until they feel it, it doesn't become real. I've got no doubt that all those boys - having this feeling - will want it again. To get it again they're going to have to make similar sacrifices.
What does David Ornstein have to say about the future of the Tottenham man?
Despite the Australian coach's success this season, journalist David Ornstein believes that Ange Postecoglou is likely to have his last season with the team.
He's a proud man and a very good football manager, and the level of ridicule that he has been exposed to is quite frankly a disgrace. he has had his duels with us in the media and, fair play, there has been a bit of give and take. there have been mistakes and he has not done everything perfectly by any means, just look at te Premier League table, but he is entitled to feel that way about what he would like going forward.
Ornstein said speaking to Sky Sports’ Paper Talk show.
However, the clear direction of travel as far as the Tottenham hierarchy are concerned goes is to make a change this summer, and it will be fascinating to see if they follow through with that. I think it is most likely they will from an outside perspective, but they have a bit more food for thought now. I think if they look at the evidence, and that isn't just results but performances and injuries, then there is enormous room or improvement. They feel there is a strong squad there. They have invested heavily and it needs more work, they need good fortune with injuries, but it wouldn't surprise me if there was still a change there.
Ornstein added.
And I don't think it would surprise Ange Postecoglou given some of his comments that have hinted towards a change coming. He seems to be at peace with that. Whatever happens now, his legacy is preserved as a history-maker for Tottenham, but there are important conversations that need to take place, and it would be an about turn if they were to stick with him because the feeling was that they would make a change this summer.
Ornstein concluded.
