Although Kylian Mbappe was one of the French national team's standout performers at the recent UEFA Nations League and contributed significantly to their third place finish by beating fourth-placed Germany, the Real Madrid star has received a lot of criticism from former players of the French national team.

Real Madrid star criticised for his country's national team

Although Kylian Mbappe had an outstanding performance in the last tournament, which was knocked out in the semi-final against Spain, he was an effective element of the French team, especially in the semi-final against Spain, when he scored a goal and created another.

In the third-place match, Kylian Mbappe provided an assist for Michael Olise and also scored a goal against Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

However, the French striker has not been recognised for his effort and has been openly criticised for it.

One of the people who criticised Mbappe's performance in front of the media was Frenchman Jerome Rothen, speaking to RMC.

What Jerome Rothen said?

Speaking about the French star's performances for his country, Rothen criticised more than one technical issue concerning Kylian Mbappe.

As is often the case, he came to participate in the game because he wanted to touch the ball, seeing that he wasn't served. But did you see the technical errors, in the transmission between the midfield and the attack? When the team is suffering, he disappears far too much for an attacking leader. When they are suffering less, he creates opportunities, as was the case against Spain.

Jerome Rothen said.

For Kylian Mbappe, who proclaims himself the best player in the world of football, you have to be much more efficient, my friend. Because with the number of opportunities you have. And it's not just in that match; it had been a year since he had scored in open play [with the national team]... I think that Kylian Mbappé, who was creative at one time, is no longer at all today. That's why he plays as a number 9. Because he doesn't make enough effort when he plays on the wing. Because when he has the ball at a standstill, he can't really eliminate it and he wastes a lot. In his passes today, he wastes a lot more than before

Rothen ended his talk about Kylian Mbappe with a challenge to do better.
