Does the FAF sanction prevent Ghorbal from participating in the Club World Cup?
Reliable media sources have revealed the situation of Algerian referee Mustapha Ghorbal, who officiated the match between Olympique Akbou and Mouloudia d’Alger, a game marked by numerous controversial decisions, during the 21st day of the Algerian professional championship.
Known for having refereed the famous "final of the century" between Al Ahly and Zamalek, Ghorbal made a series of errors during this match played on Tuesday, notably awarding a highly contested penalty to the home team in the 78th minute, which led to the winning goal.
El Khabar newspaper: Ghorbal suspended until the end of the season!
According to information reported by the daily El Khabar, international referee Mustapha Ghorbal will not officiate any matches until the end of the season. The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) is said to have made this decision due to the refereeing errors deemed crucial during the match.
The same source specifies that the FAF has decided to suspend Ghorbal — a holder of the FIFA badge since 2014 — until the end of the current season.
It should be noted that the International Federation of Football (FIFA) selected the 39-year-old Algerian referee to participate in the Club World Cup scheduled in the United States this summer, from June 14 to July 13.
It remains to be seen whether this internal suspension could jeopardize his participation in the Club World Cup… Will FIFA maintain its confidence in Ghorbal despite this national sanction?
