Drama in Egypt: Pyramids Celebrate, But League Trophy Heads to Al Ahly Amid Dispute
Croatian coach Krunoslav Jurcic rushed onto the pitch in celebration after Pyramids crushed Ceramica Cleopatra 5 - 1 on Wednesday in the final round of the Egyptian Premier League.
Title Still in Question?
Pyramids finished 2nd with 56 point, just 2 behind newly crowned champions Al Ahly. However the club's still contesting the title outcome pending Court of Arbitration for Sport CAS decision on whether Al Ahly should face 3 point deduction over the abandoned Cairo derby.
Silent Celebration
While Jurcic and his players celebrated on the field, the official league trophy'd already been sent to Cairo International Stadium where Al Ahly celebrated their 6 - 0 victory over Pharco & record 45th league crown.
Legal Fight Continues
Pyramids'd hoped to see the original league ruling upheld one that included 3 point deduction from Al Ahly. But the decision was later revised to only count the match as forfeit loss for the reds.
CAS's already rejected 2 urgent appeals from Pyramids: one requesting to delay the title announcement and another seeking immediate enforcement of the point deduction.
Appeals Exhausted
Both Pyramids & Zamalek lost earlier appeals before the EFA’s Grievances Committee which ruled that League decisions cannot be challenged leaving CAS as the club’s final hope.
