Egypt international Mohamed Shehata earned widespread admiration across Africa after touching act of kindness during the Pharaohs’ opening match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The moment came during Egypt’s hard-fought 2-1 victory over Zimbabwe in the first round of Group Stage matches.

That result put the Pharaohs at the top of the group tied with South Africa on points.

A Simple Act that spoke volumes

While warming up with Egypt’s substitutes, Shehata noticed young ball boy shivering on the touchline struggling with the cold and rain in Morocco.

Without hesitation and without drawing attention, the Egyptian midfielder removed his own coat and handed it to the child ensuring he was protected from the harsh weather conditions. The gesture was spontaneous, unplanned & completely natural.

This made it resonate more with fans inside the stadium and across social media platforms.

Moroccan Media Applaud Shehata’s Humanity

Moroccan outlet EL Botola highlighted the moment on its official social media channels, writing:

“Egyptian player Mohamed Shehata noticed ball boy shivering during the warm-up due to the cold weather and immediately took off his coat and gave it to him.”

The outlet added that the child hesitated briefly before wearing the coat as applause broke out among both Moroccan & Egyptian supporters in the stands.
