Emmanuel Kundé, Cameroonian football legend, passes away at 68

Cameroonian football is in mourning. Emmanuel Kundé, the iconic former captain of the Indomitable Lions, passed away this Friday at the age of 68. A towering figure for the national team, he earned 127 caps for Cameroon between 1979 and 1992.
Versatile and gifted, Kundé played both as a central defender and a defensive midfielder. Born in Ndom, he made an impression at Stade Lavallois between 1987 and 1988, then had a brief spell at Stade de Reims during the 1988-1989 season.
The former darling of Canon Yaoundé, six-time Cameroonian champion (1977, 1979, 1980, 1982, 1985, 1986), later wrapped up his career in Cameroon, notably playing for Prévoyance Yaoundé and Olympique de Mvolyé.
An impressive trophy haul!
Kundé's achievements in the national jersey are remarkable: twice winner of the Africa Cup of Nations (1984, 1988), winner of the Afro-Asian Cup of Nations in 1985, and one of the heroes of Cameroon's legendary run at the 1990 World Cup, where the Indomitable Lions reached the quarter-finals in Italy.
Emmanuel Kundé leaves behind the memory of a respected leader and a decisive player during the golden age of Cameroonian football.
